Penn State NIL Collective Turns Viral James Franklin Moment into Fundraising Opportunity

Penn State Football fans were excited as the Nittany Lions took the field Saturday against Maryland, knowing the team would play for a Big Ten championship in Indianapolis with a win over the Terrapins.

However, despite being 23.5-point favorites and just needing a win to secure a spot in the championship game, Penn State head coach James Franklin was not interested in the team getting ahead of themselves before facing the Terrapins.

As the Nittany Lions exited the tunnel to make their entrance into Beaver Stadium Saturday afternoon, a fan yelled “I’ll see you in Indianapolis”, referencing the team securing a spot in the Big Ten championship game with a win over Maryland thanks to a Michigan upset of the Ohio State Buckeyes earlier in the day.

Franklin’s response to the statement went viral after the game, yelling to the team and fan “Focus on f***ing Maryland, lock the f*** in.”

The video, posted by X user, Dylan Dawson, has almost 200,000 views this week, and other postings of the video have made it around social media as well.

One day before the Nittany Lions face off against the top-ranked Oregon Ducks in Indianapolis, Penn State’s NIL collective, Happy Valley United, is taking this viral moment as an opportunity to raise money for Penn State’s NIL collective.

Happy Valley United is selling T-shirts with James Franklin’s outline with the “1-0” mantra that James Franklin stresses to the team every week and “LTFI” as a reference to the viral moment.

Fans can purchase the shirts in three colors (white, black, and blue) for $40 and hoodies in white or black for $65 on Happy Valley United’s website to support Penn State’s student-athletes and the NIL collective. Happy Valley United is Penn State’s official NIL Collective, supporting 800+ student-athletes in 31 sports at Penn State.
