Penn State Football: Veteran Offensive Lineman No Longer on The Roster
As of Friday morning, veteran Penn State Football offensive lineman JB Nelson is no longer listed on the 2025 Nittany Lions roster, potentially signaling his intention to transfer out of the program.
Nelson was heading into his sixth season of college football, and his fourth season with Penn State after transferring from Lackawanna Community College. Throughout his Penn State tenure, Nelson appeared in 31 games for the Nittany Lions over four seasons, including playing in all 16 games for Penn State last season.
The 6-foot-5-inch, 326-pound offensive lineman played both interior guard positions for the Nittany Lions and was set to compete with Cooper Cousins at left guard this season for Penn State.
Nelson was seen on the Penn State practice field as late as this week.

Where Penn State Goes From Here with Potential JB Nelson Transfer

With the spring transfer portal window opening next week, Nelson could be the first Nittany Lion to enter the portal during this transfer window.
Nelson will be looking for his third college home and the team to finish his last season of eligibility with.
With Nelson’s expected departure, Cooper Cousins can be penciled in at the open left guard position for 2025. While Vega Ioane played left guard for the Nittany Lions last season, Penn State offensive line coach Phil Trautwein noted this spring that he will be moving over to right guard with 2024 starting right guard Sal Wormley heading to the NFL after exhausting his eligibility.
Cousins made a name for himself after enrolling early last year with the Nittany Lions. Cousins was named a preseason All-American by multiple outlets and went on to play in all 16 games for the Nittany Lions on offense and special teams.
Now in year two, Penn State will be expecting Cousins to take the next step in his career.
Earlier this week, Trautwein said of Cousins “He’s getting better and better and better every practice. And he’s a ball guy, he just cares about ball. He’ll probably be inside right now watching the film, because that’s just who he is. He’s going to compete and he’s going to work hard.”
