Why Penn State’s 2027 QB Haul Could Be James Franklin’s Best Yet
Well, the dust is starting to settle for the class of 2026. Penn State Football was able to land 2 booming 2026 prospects over the 4th of July weekend. Offensive Lineman Marlen Bright, and Defensive Lineman, Tyson Harley both committed to the Nittany Lions over the holiday weekend.
With Bright and Harley’s commitments, the class of 2026 seems to be shaping up. Penn State will likely shift it’s attention even more to the upcoming season and the recruiting staff will begin to focus on the class of 2027. The major caveat being, that once the 2025 football season starts, Penn State will work tirelessly at flipping some of the 2026 prospects they initially missed out on.
With that in mind, here is an outlook at the 2027 Quarterback prospects, and why I believe this class has the potential to be James Franklin’s best Quarterback class ever.

Top Target, Peter Bourque is an Elite Prospect
Penn State Football has offered a handful of Quarterbacks in the 2027 class, but the jewel of those offers looks to be Peter Bourque. The Massachusetts native is an ON3 Industry 4-star, top 100 player. He is rated as the best player in the state and a top 10 Quarterback.
Even above all the rankings and accolades, Peter Bourque is a star. Bourque’s Hudl film is terrific. The 6 foot 4, passer has a great awareness in the pocket. He can run the ball very well. He can make nearly any throw on the field. He is smart, clutch, and creative with the ball in his hands. If you can’t tell, I think Peter Bourque might be pound for pound the best Quarterback recruit of James Franklin’s tenure.
When you mention best Quarterback recruit of James Franklin’s tenure, two names immediately come to mind: Drew Allar and Justin Fields. Truthfully, Bourque seems like a great blend of both of those prospects, thus making him better overall. He is a more agile Quarterback than Allar, yet still has the ability to sling it all over the field. Bourque’s athleticism combined with his arm talent is why I believe he is the best Quarterback recruit in James Franklin’s Penn State tenure.
Stop me if you have heard this before. Peter Bourque seems to have his sites set on Penn State, Michigan, and Notre Dame. He has taken multiple visits to all three schools, with Penn State setting the pace at 7 visits. This is a vital recruitment for Penn State Football in the class of 2027.
Other Quarterback Prospects to Watch
In addition to Bourque, there are two other Quarterbacks in the running for Penn State Football in the class of 2027.
Keegan Croucher is a signal caller who holds a Penn State offer. He is another east coast standout who is rated as an ON3 Industry 4-star. Similar to Bourque, Croucher also seems to like Penn State, Notre Dame, and Michigan. Croucher is a blue chip prospect and will have plenty of good schools to choose from, including Penn State.
The other Quarterback to watch for in the class of 2027 is Peyton Houston. To be honest, he would be a tough pull. The Louisiana native is an ON3 Industry 4-star and holds a bevy of elite SEC offers. Houston has visited State College and Penn State is in the mix with him currently. However, with him being an out of the footprint kid, this would be an extremely impressive pull.

The Potential at Quarterback in the Class of 2027 is Phenomenal
The three aforementioned names, are all blue chip, top tier, elite Quarterback prospects at this stage in the 2027 recruiting cycle.
That is why, I think the 2027 Quarterback class could be James Franklin’s best ever. There are a lot of things between now and the 2027 signing day that could factor in to how the 2027 Quarterback class looks, but right now, the outlook from a Penn State Football perspective is tremendous. Penn State will look to secure Peter Bourque’s commitment and then go from there at Quarterback.
