What Officiating Crew Will be Working the SMU vs Penn State Football Playoff game?
The 12-team College Football Playoff field is set, and Penn State Football will begin its journey to Atlanta at home, hosting SMU in the first-ever College Football Playoff game at Beaver Stadium.
In a surprising development, it was revealed that SEC officials, not Big Ten officials, will oversee the game, a departure from regular-season practices where Big Ten officials typically manage conference games.
The fact that a neutral officiating crew will be working the game does, though, keep any accusations of biases at bay, given that SMU is an ACC member school.
First Round Playoff Details
Penn State has declared the first-round game a “Whiteout,” promising a packed and energized atmosphere at Beaver Stadium.
The game will be broadcast on TNT with ESPN’s production. Mark Jones, Roddy Jones, and Quint Kessenich will handle the play-by-play and commentary.
Ticketing and Availability Issues
Tickets for the game officially went on sale to the public, and it seems there are still plenty of seats available. While Penn State students did not request their full ticket allotment, approximately 5,000 seats have been made available to the general public. Fans can purchase tickets for as low as $100 before fees, though students have encountered some issues securing theirs.
On social media, fans are reporting that tickets remain widely available on Ticketmaster, even after being released for public sale.
“We are aware of the situation with student tickets and are working to resolve it,” a Penn State official tells NittanyCentral.
