Penn State Football Launches 2027 Recruiting Cycle With a Bang

Penn State Football is still piecing together its 2025 class and is off to a hot start on its 2026 class, but Friday, the Nittany Lions got their first 2027 commitment from in-state running back Kemon Spell.

Only a rising sophomore, Spell burst onto the recruiting scene during his freshman season, running for 15.9 yards per carry and four rushing touchdowns for McKeesport High School.

The 5-foot, 11-inch, 175 pound running back Spell committed to the Nittany Lions over offers from Michigan, Florida State, Michigan State, West Virginia, Wisconsin, and Pitt, among others. Spell has visited Penn State twice, once back in April and a second time for Penn State’s Lasch Bash last weekend, according to 247Sports.

What Kemon Spell’s Commitment Means for Penn State Football

Spell’s commitment continues the trend of Penn State getting elite in-state talent at running back under running back coach Ja’Juan Seider.

Under Seider, Penn State has received the commitment of in-state talents Saquon Barkley, Miles Sanders, Journey Brown, Nick Singleton, and Quinton Martin.

Spell is the first member of the 2027 class for Penn State, which does not have a ranking as the 2027 prospect rankings have not been released yet.
