Penn State Wrestling: Carter Starocci a Four-Time NCAA Champion with Shutout Win

Penn State Wrestling adds something new to its record book as Carter Starocci takes home his fourth NCAA title.

Going back to Starocci’s last match of the regular season, it’s hard to imagine anyone could do what he did. After his technical fall win Carter was writhing on the mat in pain as it was clear he severely injured his right knee.

And after the two consecutive injury forfeits in the 2024 Big Ten Championships, it was anyone’s guess as to whether Starocci could even wrestle in the NCAA’s.

Carter Starocci Dominates in National Championship Victory

Well, Carter Starocci didn’t just wrestle in this year’s NCAA Championships, he proved to the nation just how tough and determined of a competitor he truly is.

Against all odds, Starocci continued to advance to each round. He took out the No. 1 seed in the 174 bracket and people still were doubting whether he could get out of the semifinals.

Carter Starocci proved them wrong.

And tonight, following his 2-0 win against Ohio State’s Rocco Welsh, Starocci has firmly planted his face on the Penn State Mount Rushmore of wrestling.

Prior to this year, no other Nittany Lions great had ever won more than three NCAA titles. But now that the dust is settled on one of the best Nittany Lions to ever suit up, Carter Starocci’s career comes into full perspective.

Starocci finishes with a career record of 93-4 (two of those losses were this year and two were in his freshman year), he won two Big Ten titles, and he’s now one of only six wrestler’s in NCAA history with four titles.

For his accomplishments, Carter Starocci will forever be remembered by Penn State fans and collegiate fans across the country.
