Penn State Wrestling: Relive The Match – Carter Starocci

Reliving Carter Starocci’s final collegiate match inside of Rec Hall for Penn State Wrestling.

The last time Carter Starocci lost a match (non injury forfeit) was way back on January 30th, 2021. If you’re scoring at home, that’s a span of 1491 days.

And in that span of time, Starocci has won 95 matches, he won two B1G titles, and he was crowned an NCAA champion four times.

The last of which occurred in the 2024 NCAA Championships.

This is where Carter became the first wrestler in Nittany Lion history to be a four-time champ. Obviously a second Penn Stater accomplished the same feat two matches later as Aaron Brooks claimed his fourth title.

But Carter was still technically “first”.

As insanely great as Cael Sanderson is as a head coach, it’s hard to imagine he fully expected Carter Starocci to become this.

Penn State Wrestling Accomplishments

With the 2025 B1G Championships and the 2025 NCAA Championships still on the horizon, here is where Starocci falls on several Penn State all-time lists:

Career Wins: 26th (111)
Career Win %: 10th (96.5%)
Career Bonus Wins: 12th (71)
Career Bonus Win %: 15th (60.9%)
Career Tech Falls: T-6th (24)

And there’s also a very good possibility that Starocci can do what no other D1 collegiate wrestler has ever done in the history of the sport. Which is the chase for his fifth NCAA individual title.

Penn State Wrestling fans will know sooner rather than later if Carter is able to accomplish this incredible feat.

But before we turn the page to the next chapters of the season, let’s highlight Carter Starocci’s final collegiate match in Rec Hall. This will be the second edition of “Relive The Match” as yesterday I focused on Beau Bartlett’s last match in front of the home crowd.

1st Period

The match started out with Starocci seemingly stalking White from the get-go.

Carter continued to apply pressure as he was constantly moving forward and using his strength to essentially bully White to the boundary line. Additionally, White was dinged with a stall warning only 32 seconds into the match after going out of bounds.

On the ensuing restart, Carter snapped down hard on White several times. White then countered with a low single, however the weight and strength of Starocci’s hips halted his attack.

Carter freed his left leg and cinched in a quick cradle. But White was ready and pulled loose, flipping to his stomach to give up the takedown.

Starocci cut White loose and then hit on a beautiful low single to secure his second takedown of the first period. From there it looked like Carter was going to work a cross-body tilt for back points, or even a pin, But he scrapped that and cut White loose for the second time.

The two locked up several times at the top side of the mat as the clock was nearing the two-minute mark.

Carter then got in deep with a front headlock. He pushed White and then let him try to push back. Which worked to perfection as White’s momentum took him slightly past Carter.

Starocci let go of the headlock, he circle around and landed another cradle. He worked this into an arm bar and then into a front headlock. However this time White’s back was to the mat and everyone in Rec Hall knew what was about to happen.

The referee circled in several times. And with 38 seconds remaining in the first period, he finally signaled the fall.

The Penn State faithful stood to their feet and filled Rec Hall with their cheers and appreciation.

Carter Starocci, with his hand raised at the center of the mat, simply gave a small fist pump.

Because he knows his journey isn’t over yet.
