Penn State Wrestling vs. Wyoming | FULL RESULTS

The No. 1 ranked Penn State Wrestling team dismantled No. 26 Wyoming 54-0 in the cavernous hall of the Bryce Jordan Center.

Now you might be wondering to yourself, “Hey self, I thought the Nittany Lions only had two duals this year in the BJC?”. Well, you would be correct. The original schedule did have Penn State taking on Iowa and Michigan in the Bryce Jordan Center on two consecutive Fridays later in the season.

However with the No. 1 seed Lady Lion Volleyball team in the Elite Eight taking on No. 2 Creighton, the Penn State Wrestling team was bumped to the BJC.

And in the end, it didn’t matter if the Nittany Lions were wrestling Wyoming in Rec Hall, in the East Dining Commons, or on the moon. Because they came out gunning and the results were not pretty if you are a Cowboys fan.

Penn State Wrestling won all 10 matches and piled up a major decision, four technical falls, and five pins in the process.

Now Onto The Action!

The dual started out at 125 where Luke Lilledahl got the bonus points party started. “Lightning” Luke racked up takedown after takedown and cruised to the 20-5 technical fall midway through the second period.

Up next at 133, Braeden Davis again put up a good showing on the mat. He shook off last week’s loss to the No. 1 ranked guy in the nation and he too blasted his opponent with overwhelming offense. Davis’ 18-3 technical fall put the Nittany Lions up 10-0 after the first two matches on the day.

I’m not sure if Beau Bartlett was double-parked outside of the BJC, because he certainly wrestled like it. Bartlett didn’t even break a sweat when he turned his opponents shoulders to the mat a mere 47 seconds into the match.

Then Shayne Van Ness did the exact same thing at 149. However Van Ness had to actually wrestle through the first and second periods before he landed his fall.

In perhaps the best match of the dual meet (at least on paper), Tyler Kasak was strong out of the gate against No. 19 Jared Hill. Kasak took a commanding 7-1 lead after the first period and finished off an impressive 16-3 major decision.

At the halfway mark, Penn State Wrestling was rolling to a 26-0 lead.

And unfortunately for Wyoming, things did not get better for them in the second half of the dual.

Mitchell Mesenbrink quickly took care of his opponent with a 15-0 technical fall in the second period. Then Levi Haines, Carter Starocci, and Josh Barr pinned each of the competitors. I would also like to point out that each fall was in the first period.

Wow.

Greg Kerkvliet then turned the lights out in the final match of the afternoon.

His 20-3 technical fall early in the second period ended the dual with the Nittany Lions on top 54-0.

When you look up the word “dominant” in the dictionary, there will be a one hour and seven minute Youtube video of this dual meet.

Notes, Next Up for Penn State Wrestling

Penn State is now 3-0 on the season and they extend their dual meet unbeaten streak to 59.

Cael Sanderson ups his career Nittany Lion record to 206-16-2.

Next up on the slate for Penn State Wrestling is the 2024 Journeymen Collegiate Duals. This event is a three event dual between Penn State, Binghamton, Arkansas-Little Rock, and Missouri. The wrestling action will start on Sunday, December 22nd at 3:00pm EST.
