Penn State Wrestling: Will The Real Beau Bartlett Please Stand Up?
With an undefeated record and the top seed in the Big Ten, you would think Penn State Wrestling’s Beau Bartlett has to be one of the most confident wrestlers in the pool.
Facing “imposter syndrome” can cause even the proven best to underperform.
During 2024, Bartlett faced Jesse Mendez of Ohio State during the regular season and beat the defending 141lb national champion 4-2. Being No. 1 is a stressful spot to defend.
“When I’m really tight and stressed out,” Bartlett told reporters this week. “That’s not when I wrestle my best,”
Mendez went on to beat No. 1 seeded Bartlett in consecutive championship matches at the 2024 Big Ten and NCAA tournament. Having lots of postseason success, three podium finishes in the last two years, gold has yet to be hung around the neck of Bartlett.

The 2025 season looks very similar to 2024 with a No. 1 seed and regular season win over Mendez the real Beau Bartlett is here to stand up.
Training has been focused on getting better, making adjustments, and staying loose. Bartlett has built a slow and steady week of training leading up to his first bout on Saturday.
Seeking the reason that helped you attain your success is a key to overcoming imposter syndrome.
Bartlett said he is at his best when he is, “having a blast and letting it rip. And I’m having a blast right now, so it’s time to let it rip.”
