Penn State Tight End Tyler Warren Enters Heisman Trophy Conversation Against USC
There may not be a more versatile player in the country than Penn State Football tight end Tyler Warren.
Warren took snaps at tight end, wide receiver, center, wildcat quarterback, and H-back during a historic day against USC that ended with him breaking two Penn State records and tying an FBS tight end record.
Here’s everything that Tyler Warren did to help lead Penn State past USC:
From the first drive of the day, it was clear that Tyler Warren was going to be the focal point of the Nittany Lions’ offense.
On Penn State’s first drive of the day, Tyler Warren picked up four rushing yards and five catches for 46 yards. Warren caught five of the six passes Penn State threw on the drive. Warren also caught a touchdown pass on the drive that was wiped off the board with an offensive pass interference penalty on fourth and goal, forcing Penn State to kick a field goal to take a 3-0 lead.
From there, the Penn State offense continued to run through Tyler Warren. Warren completed a nine-yard pass on Penn State’s second drive before Penn State Football’s offense stalled out for most of the rest of the half. At the half, Warren already had accumulated 98 receiving yards and nine catches.
In the second half, however, Tyler Warren entered legendary territory.

Tyler Warren Enters the Record Book as Penn State Football Tops USC
Warren caught eight passes for 126 yards and a touchdown in the second half and overtime to help Penn State overcome a 14-point halftime deficit and will Penn State to 6-0 on the season.
On Penn State’s first drive of the second half, Warren caught two passes for 42 yards and a touchdown. In his most impressive play of the day, Tyler Warren lined up at center, snapped the ball to Penn State backup quarterback Beau Pribula, and then caught a touchdown pass from Drew Allar on a double pass to the endzone.

Overall, Tyler Warren caught 17 passes for 224 yards and a touchdown, threw one pass for nine yards, and rushed for four yards for Penn State. His 17 catches are a Penn State record for any pass catcher, breaking DaeSean Hamilton’s record of 14 receptions against Ohio State in 2014.
The 17 receptions also tie a Big Ten record and FBS record for most catches by a tight end in a game. Warren’s 224 receiving yards also broke a Penn State record, breaking Warren’s own record of 146 yards that he set against Bowling Green earlier this season. Warren also extended his Penn State record for touchdown receptions by a tight end with another touchdown against the Trojans.
Warren was the best player on the field by far for either team Saturday and should have launched his Mackey Award and Paul Hornung Award (and maybe Heisman Award) campaign if it wasn’t already this season.
Tyler Warren was on the preseason Mackey Award watchlist for the best tight end in the nation. The Hornung Award is given to the most versatile player in college football annually. Penn State’s Nick Singleton was the only Nittany Lion named to the watch list for the Hornung Award, but Warren’s performance in multiple positions this season for Penn State deserves recognition for the award.
While it is virtually impossible for Tyler Warren to win the Heisman Trophy, given to the best player in college football yearly, his play certainly makes a case for Warren to be the best player in college football.
Warren did it all for Penn State and was a major reason that Penn State pulled out a pivotal win on the road against USC Saturday.
