Penn State tight end Tyler Warren was a somewhat surprising return for the Nittany Lions for his fifth season in Happy Valley this upcoming campaign.
Fellow tight end Theo Johnson declared for the NFL Draft after the Nittany Lions campaign, and an argument could have been made for Tyler Warren to also declare after putting up better season numbers than Johnson in 2023.
In 2024, however, Warren looks to be one of starting quarterback Drew Allar’s most reliable targets while launching his campaign for the 2025 NFL Draft.
In 2023, Warren caught 34 passes for 422 yards and tied for the team lead in receiving touchdowns with seven.

Tyler Warren: 3 Fast Facts
Tyler Warren Played Quarterback in High School
Before converting to tight end, Penn State found Tyler Warren as a three-star athlete in the 2020 class playing quarterback at Atlee High School in Mechanicsville, Virginia.
During his senior season, Warren passed for 1,149 passing yards and 14 touchdowns and added 677 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns on the ground.
Tyler Warren was a three-sport athlete in high school
In addition to playing quarterback on his high school team, Tyler Warren played right field for his high school baseball team and power forward for his high school basketball team. In his baseball career, Warren batted .457 with three home runs and 39 RBIs. In basketball, Warren averaged 10.8 points and 5.2 rebounds per game.
Warren tied for 3rd nationally in touchdown receptions in 2023
Penn State’s tight end room was elite in 2023, catching 16 total touchdown passes last season, most of any tight end room in the nation.
Warren and fellow starting tight end Theo Johnson both caught seven touchdown passes for the Nittany Lions in 2023, tied for third nationally among tight ends, and the most among tight ends returning in 2024.
Bold Predictions for Tyler Warren in 2024
Tyler Warren Breaks Penn State’s All-Time Tight-End Touchdown Record
Okay, this may not even be that bold of a prediction. In 2023, Warren caught seven touchdowns in the blue and white. Over his four-year career, Warren has caught 11 career touchdowns in his career, tied for fourth among Penn State tight ends all-time.
Warren needs only five touchdowns in 2024 to tie Pat Freiermuth’s record of 16. I predict that Warren will break this record before declaring for the 2025 NFL draft, leaving him as the sole holder of the Penn State record.
Tyler Warren will pass for a touchdown in 2024
Stop me if you have heard this before, Penn State has a creative new offensive coordinator for the 2024 season in Andy Kotelnicki.
With Kotelnicki bringing his creative playcalling to Penn State this year, Kotelnicki will look to fully utilize every weapon at the Nittany Lions’ disposal. With Warren’s former quarterback experience from high school, I predict that Warren will have the opportunity to once again use his arm to throw a touchdown pass this fall.
Tyler Warren will be a major focus of Drew Allar and the Nittany Lions offense in 2024. If his year is as productive as 2023, Warren could find himself surprisingly high on a few team’s draft boards next April.
