Penn State quarterback Drew Allar is heading into the 2024 season as one of the best quarterbacks in the Big Ten.
Still, Allar will have some competition for the top spot, and one of the guys who will rival him is a newcomer to his school and team to the conference Oregon Ducks quarterback Dillon Gabriel.
Oregon is joining the Big Ten this season along with USC, UCLA, and Washington, and the Ducks signal-caller Gabriel is one of the best quarterbacks in college football and was ranked as one of the highest quarterbacks in this year’s transfer portal by many media outlets.
Gabriel is from Mililani, Hawaii, and graduated from high school and committed to UCF in the 2019 class. The Hawaii native started three seasons for the Knights before switching to play at Oklahoma in 2022, where he spent two seasons with the team.

Who Has the Edge … Dillon Gabriel or Drew Allar?
The 6-foot-0 200-pound quarterback did some damage, with the Sooners throwing for 6,828 yards and 55 touchdowns while running for 688 yards and 18 scores in 25 games.
Gabriel will bring five years of experience to Oregon and has Allar beat in that way.
The Penn State quarterback only has an entire season starting under his belt, but even though Gabriel has tons of experience and can do a lot with his legs, Allar has the chance to be better than him this season.
Gabriel is a finished product at 23 years old, while Allar has much time to improve.
Allar has the chance to develop into a better passer than Gabriel this season, and he can get there with a second season of starting under him.
Expect both quarterbacks to be in the Heisman Trophy conversation this fall.
Sadly, these two teams won’t meet in the regular season, but they could in the Big Ten title game or even the College Football Playoff.
