Penn State Football is gearing up for the 2024 season, and it could be a significant player in the new College Football Playoff, which will now feature 12 teams instead of four.
It has the players to make a significant impact if it does get into the playoffs, and one of those players is starting quarterback Drew Allar.
Allar turned himself into one of the best quarterbacks in college football as a first-year starter last season and now is ready to put himself in the conversation as one of the first quarterbacks taken in next year’s NFL Draft.
There are several star players across Penn State’s roster capable of helping lead a playoff charge, but, few pieces are more important to the puzzle than Allar.

Penn State Football QB Room Ranked Among Nation’s Best
Nittany Lions fans are very familiar with Allar, but they are also very loaded at the position behind him, and the national media noticed this.
Max Chadwick from Pro Football Focus published an article this week College Football: Top 10 Quarterback Rooms Ahead of the 2024 season and had the Nittany Lions at number nine.
“Drew Allar might be the most disrespected quarterback in college football,” Chadwick writes for PFF. “Often receiving the blame for the offense’s struggles despite regularly being hamstrung by his environment. Allar’s 86.3 grade was a top-20 mark among FBS quarterbacks, and he ranked second to only Bo Nix in turnover-worthy play rate (1.1%). He’s one of the 10 best signal-callers in the nation right now.
“Allar’s backup, Beau Pribula, posted an impressive 79.8 PFF grade on 142 snaps last season. The Nittany Lions also added true freshman Ethan Grunkemeyer to their quarterback room, the No. 9 quarterback recruit in the 2024 class.”
Penn State is the third-ranked Big Ten team on the quarterback room list, with Oregon at number two with Dillon Gabriel and Dante Moore and Ohio State at number four with Will Howard and Devin Brown.
The Nittany Lions have the quarterback room to compete with every team in the country this season, and they will have a chance to win every game because of it.
