At the start of the season, we are going to see some surprises and other things that would have you scratching your head. Penn State Football head coach James Franklin revealed a big one, ahead of the season opener against Purdue.
During Franklin’s Press Conference to get ready for the Purdue game, he revealed that five-star freshman Drew Allar has vaulted up the Nittany Lions‘ depth chart, and will serve as Sean Clifford‘s backup int he season-opener.

Franklin would say that it is not set in stone for the rest of the season, but, for Week 1 he is the backup QB.
“Taking everything into consideration, the coaching staff felt like it was the right decision,” Franklin explained.
This is something that we are going to keep an eye on for the rest of the season, Allar was ranked number 51 on ESPN Recruiting class for 2022, and viewed by many recruiting networks as the premier quarterback in the nation during this recruiting cycle.
