Nick Singleton and Kaytron Allen have a strong case as the best backfield duo in Penn State Football history, and the pair of true sophomores caught the attention of one of the program’s legendary former backs.

Philadelphia Eagles running back Miles Sanders, in preparation for his first career Super Bowl appearance offered high praise for Singleton and Allen, from the team’s hotel in Arizona.

“Absolutely,” Sanders told reporters, when asked if he sees any resemblance between Allen and Singleton to what he and Saquon Barkley were able to accomplish during their time together in the Blue and White.

“Those two are electric, explosive,” Sanders pointed out. “One’s a home run hitter, one’s a bruiser, I love it. What they’re doing right now, and shoutout to coach [Ja’Juan] Seider, I know he’s loving that.

“To have two backs like that, to ball-out, as freshman, I know he’s loving that.”

Singleton arrived in Happy Valley as the top-rated running back in the 2022 recruiting cycle, and didn’t disappoint.

As a true freshman, Singleton rushed for 1,061 yards with 12 touchdowns, while averaging 6.8 yards per carry.

Meanwhile, Allen proved worthy of a role beyond merely a change of pace back. Allen averaged 5.2 yards per carry, with 10 touchdowns, while rushing for 867 yards during the 2022 campaign.

Singleton and Allen will aim to build on their impressive debut seasons, with the benefit of running behind what is arguably the most dominant offensive line assembled during James Franklin’s tenure as head coach in Happy Valley.

The duo of Singleton and Allen isn’t just reminiscent of Barkley and Sanders’ success, but just might hold the key to the Nittany Lions’ College Football Playoff aspirations in 2023 and beyond.
