Miles Sanders Signs With Panthers | How He Fits

Miles Sanders

It didn’t take long for Miles Sanders to cash in.

The former Philadelphia Eagles running back, and second-round pick out of Penn State Football, agreed to terms with the Carolina Panthers on the first day of NFL free agency.

Sanders, 25, is coming off the most prolific season of his career, rushing for 1,269 yards with 12 touchdowns — both career highs, while averaging 4.9 Yards Per Carry.

Instrumental to the Eagles’ Super Bowl run in 2022, Sanders now moves on to a rebuilding situation with the Carolina Panthers, who executed a blockbuster trade with the Chicago Bears to acquire the No. 1 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft.

How does Miles Sanders fit the Panthers?

Sanders arrives in Charlotte, immediately vaulting to the top of the Panthers’ running back depth chart.

Alongside Chubba Hubbard, Sanders rounds out a formidable backfield duo n head coach Frank Reich’s scheme that emphasizes a bellcow back when it’s an option.

During the 2021 season, Reich’s last as head coach of the Indianapolis Colts, Jonathan Taylor took home the rushing title with 1,811 yards and 18 touchdowns.

It would not be surprising, especially with a young quarterback presumably joining the fold with the top pick in the draft, for Sanders to feature prominently in the Panthers’ offense.

Since being chosen in the second-round of the 2019 NFL Draft out of Penn State Football, Sanders has rushed for 3,708 yards with 20 touchdowns, while catching 124 passes for 942 yards and 3 scores.
