Joey Porter Jr. was chosen in the second-round of the 2023 NFL Draft by the Pittsburgh Steelers, and received a glowing review from one of his former Nittany Lions teammates.
“I feel like he can be great,” Chicago Bears safety Jaquan Brisker said of Porter, during a recent appearance on Heavy Sports’ The Matt Lombardo Show.
Porter has been projected as high as a top-10 selection in recent 2023 NFL Mock Drafts, and Brisker believes the hype is real.
“He’s 6-foot-3,” Brisker said. “And he can run. He’s going to be physical at the line of scrimmage. But, he can also get off and play zone, you know toggle, if he wants. That makes him very different and unique.”

During the NFL Combine in Indianapolis, Porter flashed his athleticism, running the 40-yard dash in 4.46 seconds and posting a 10-foot-9-inch broad jump, testing at a high level that reflected his game tape.
This past season, teams shied away from throwing Porter’s way, particularly because of his length and skill-set, made him one of the more coveted players in the NFL Draft, and the first selection of the second-round.
Porter produced 21 total tackles and eight pass breakups in his final season in Happy Valley, prior to being chosen with the No. 32 overall pick in the 2023 draft.
Brisker believes that the best is yet to come, for his former teammate, wherever he lands at the next level.
“Once an NFL coach gets a hold of him,” Brisker said. “And a defense figures out what they want to do with him, I feel like he could be very dangerous.”
