Joey Porter might have slipped out of the first-round of the 2023 NFL Draft, but the former Penn State Football standout might have landed in his ideal situation.

That was evident, following his Porter’s rookie minicamp practice with the Pittsburgh Steelers, after being chosen in the second-round with the No. 32 overall pick during last month’s draft.

“I feel at home already,” Porter told reporters. “Just as like a young kid I used to be here through these doors to work out, now I am a grown man doing the same thing. So it feels good.”

The former Nittany Lions standout arrives in Pittsburgh, where his father forged a legendary career, and where he’ll get to play across from Patrick Peterson, one of the cornerbacks he’s patterned his game after growing up.

“I feel like I can have a big impact,” Porter said, via SportsIllustrated FanNation. “I am really just trying to learn from the old guys and kind of get their respect and show them what I can do on and off the field.”

Porter Jr. has the potential to start immediately, after breaking up 11 passes during his final season in the Penn State secondary in 2022.

But, the first step for Porter Jr. is following his father’s legendary Iron City footsteps, and onto the field for his first rookie minicamp. That was a moment that clearly left a mark on the Steelers’ newest corner.
