Penn State Football is about to enter the most important stretch of the 2024 recruiting cycle, this weekend.
With all eyes on the official visit window, the imagination starts to run wild with the possibilities of how this class could finish up for the Nittany Lions.
One thing we know for sure about this class is that it’s going over 25 commits.
Where Things Stand for Penn State Football Recruiting
Penn State already holds 14 commitments in the 2024 class, and that’s with the Nittany Lions not having a single wide receiver, defensive line or safety commit.
After only taking one wide receiver in the 2023 cycle, Penn State needs to load up on talent at the position this year.
The Nittany Lions will likely take 3-4 wide outs.
Look for Penn State Football to load up on the defensive line as well.
The Nittany Lions need at least two defensive tackles and two edge rushers. They will have plenty of opportunities to add to the defensive line group over the next month with numerous top targets coming to town.
After taking a solid safety haul in the 2023 class James Franklin and Co. will likely only need two in this one. With that said, that’s an additional 10 commits, bringing the class total to 24.

This is before we take into account that Penn State Football is looking to add a second quarterback to the class, along with Ethan Grunkemeyer, and is still actively pursuing elite talent at positions like linebacker and offensive tackle.
This class can easily get to 28 commits by the time Signing Day rolls around.
Why Penn State Football Will Take 25 Players
There had been restrictions on taking classes this large in the past, with 25 commits being the limit.
Teams had found ways to work around this number before, including Penn State Football, who took 27 commits in the 2020 class. The NCAA changed the legislation last year though, stating that teams can take up to 32 commits in a class, as long as the team’s total of scholarships did not exceed 85.
This rule is supposed to expire at the end of this season as it was a response to players having an extra year of eligibility due to the pandemic.
The timing could not be any better for Penn State Football and this rule change.
