Pair of Penn State Football Stars Named Preseason All-Americans

Penn State Football

The College football season is approaching quickly, and it’s time to get excited. No. 7 Penn State Football should have a good season with all their talent on the roster.

Opening the season inside the top-10 of the AP Preseason poll is a testament to the level of talent on a loaded Penn State roster.

As the season nears, The Athletic College Football staff put their College Football All-America teams, and two Nittany Lions made the list.

Offensive Tackle Olu Fashanu

Olu Fashanu was a three-star recruit in the class of 2020, and he started only nine games in three seasons at Penn State.

Last year at left tackle, he allowed zero sacks and seven pressures in 299 pass-blocking attempts. Fashanu is positioning himself to be a first-round draft pick if he can stay healthy and continue to develop.

The Nittany Lions will depend heavily on Fashanu because they like to run the ball, and they have a new quarterback Drew Allar.

Cornerback Kalen King

Joey Porter Jr. moved on to the NFL, and now Kalen King will fill Porter’s shoes.

Last year, King had a strong season which earned him third-team All-American honors from Pro Football Focus.

Also, King made the AP All-Big Ten second team. Last season the Nittany Lions’ defense finished among the top 16 in the nation in multiple major defensive categories, and they return seven starters this season.

King is now arguably the Big Ten’s best cornerback and will be tasked to go up against the opposing team’s best receivers every game.

King broke up 18 passes last season and had three interceptions. King got challenged a lot with Porter on the other side last season, and he answered the challenge nicely.

But, when Porter was out with appendicitis last year, King stepped in, took over the CB1 role, and filled in amazingly. Last season’s performance could be a harbinger of things to come for Penn State’s new top corner.
