In his starting debut Saturday, Drew Allar joined Daryll Clark as only the second Penn State Football quarterback in history to throw for 300+ yards and three touchdowns in a season opener.
Tuesday, Allar’s performance earned him Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week, and the sophomore quarterback wasn’t shy about sharing the credit.
“That’s really cool to win that type of award,” Allar said, on a conference call with reporters Tuesday morning. But, we always talk about with our team success comes individual success, and I think that’s a credit to the whole team. I wouldn’t be in that position without the offensive line, first of all.”

Allar was surgical Saturday night against West Virginia, completing 21 of his 29 passes for 325 yards and three touchdowns. His night could have been even better, as receivers dropped three passes including two potential touchdown passes in a row.
As a recognition of Allar’s outstanding performance, West Virginia head coach Neal Brown remarked that West Virginia’s plan was to “make the quarterback beat us…and he did”.
The recognition from the Big Ten is Allar’s first Offensive Player of the Week award for his career, but based on his performance Saturday night, likely not his last.

Penn State’s last Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week was Sean Clifford, recognized after Penn State’s Whiteout win over Minnesota last season.
