Penn State Football In The Mix For Top Transfer Portal WR, Report Says

Penn State Football

Following a disappointing 24-15 loss to Michigan that led to the firing of Penn State offensive coordinator Mike Yurcich, the Nittany Lions are reportedly showing interest in former Texas A&M wide receiver Raymond Cottrell, per Chris Hummer of 247 Sports.

Cottrell announced his decision to enter the transfer portal Sunday after Texas A&M head coach Jimbo Fisher was fired by the Aggies.

Thank You God he’s been so good to me 🖤 I couldn’t do anything without him.. as of now I am in the portal with 3 years of eligibility left✝️ #Goddid thank you to everyone who was with me on my journey… pic.twitter.com/7nnmRmFhIM

Cottrell was ranked a four-star wide receiver in the class of 2023 and was ranked the number 39 overall wide receiver and the number 50 player from the state of Florida.

Before he committed to Texas A&M, Cottrell held offers from Georgia, Miami, Florida, and Alabama, among others. Cottrell did not have an offer from Penn State in high school.

247Sports ranks Cottrell as the number one overall player in the transfer portal right now and will surely have plenty of interest for his talents.

Unsurprisingly, Penn State Football is looking to the transfer portal to boost its wide receiver room talent and depth for the second year in a row after the Lions failed to have a receiver catch more than 2 targets or account for more than 13 yards against the Wolverines.

This may be the first of many wide receiver prospects that Penn State shows interest in as wide receiver coach Marcus Hagans looks to acquire as many weapons as possible for former five-star quarterback Drew Allar heading into 2024 and the expanded College Football Playoff.

Texas A&M WR Raymond Cottrell is currently ranked as the No. 1 overall player in @247SportsPortal. A look at what he’s looking for in his next school and who’s reached out so far. (VIP)https://t.co/OsFcsfStwm
