Where does Mel Kiper Jr rank Penn State’s Drew Allar among NFL Draft Eligible QBs?
Now in his third year at Penn State, former five-star recruit Drew Allar is now eligible for the NFL draft after the 2024 season.
After leading the Big Ten in passing touchdowns, but struggling in big games in 2023, Allar has taken his game to another level in 2024.
Allar ranks near the top of the nation in passer efficiency rating (6th), yards per pass attempt (6th), and QBR (6th).
But the question remains, where would Drew Allar rank among eligible quarterbacks if he were to declare for the NFL Draft after this season? Well, Mel Kiper Jr. answered that question this week.
Where Mel Kiper Jr. Ranks Penn State QB Drew Allar in 2025 NFL Draft Class
On Monday, Mel Kiper Jr.’s top 10 QBs for the 2025 draft was released.
Drew Allar ranked sixth on Kiper Jr.’s board among quarterbacks eligible for the 2025 NFL draft. Allar is ranked behind Colorado’s Shedeur Sanders, Georgia’s Carson Beck, Texas’ Quinn Ewers, Miami’s Cam Ward, and Alabama’s Jalen Milroe. Allar does rank as the top draft eligible quarterback in the Big Ten, a few spots ahead of USC’s Miller Moss and Ohio State’s Will Howard.

In the latest FanDuel odds, Allar ranks 10th among players to go number one overall in next April’s draft.
Six quarterbacks have been taken in the first round of the NFL draft only twice in history (1983 and 2024). As the sixth ranked quarterback, this would put Allar in the fringe day one/ day two pick range.
Allar’s NFL prospects have been on the radar since his high school days, where he was rated the number one quarterback and number three overall recruit in the 2022 class by 247Sports. In 247Sports analyst Gabe Brooks analysis of Allar, Brooks projected Allar as a first round quarterback with “excellent size with prototypical build of a big-bodied pro-style quarterback.” Brooks continued that Allar “should become an impact high-major starter with NFL Draft first-round potential.”
Allar has succeeded at the first projection, winning the starting job at Penn State and holding that position well over the past year and a half. Now, Allar is working on the second.
If his improvement from the beginning of the season carries through in Big Ten play and the postseason, Allar might be well on his way to hearing his name called on day one of the NFL draft next April.
