Drew Allar Carves Up Purdue, Sets Personal Best For Efficiency | QB Report Card

According to Penn State Football head coach James Franklin, Penn State played the Nittany Lions “most complete” performance of the season, dominating the Purdue Boilermakers 49-10 for the Nittany Lions’ ninth win on the season.

The offense under starting quarterback Drew Allar dominated the Boilermakers all night, en route to seven touchdowns by six different Nittany Lions. Allar had one of the most efficient days of a Penn State quarterback this century as well in the win.

Here is what went down for the Nittany Lions.

Allar’s hot start to the day set the tone for the Nittany Lions against the Boilermakers.

The junior quarterback completed his first 10 passes and was 10 for 11 for 124 yards and two touchdowns in the first quarter, jumping the Nittany Lions out to a 14-0 lead. Allar also was able to get it done on the ground for Penn State early, running for 20 yards on Penn State’s first three drives.

Penn State scored on three of its five first-half drives, adding a third touchdown after a crucial fourth down pickup by Tyler Warren followed by a double pass from Allar to Warren for 38 yards led to a 10-yard Nick Singleton touchdown.

In the second half, Allar was again efficient, completing four of his five pass attempts for 81 yards. In his final pass of the day, Allar connected on a deep shot to Harrison Wallace III on a 48-yard touchdown to put the Nittany Lions up 35-3, Allar’s third touchdown pass of the day. After the touchdown pass, Allar took a seat and let Beau Pribula and the backups finish the game out for the Nittany Lions for the final quarter and a half.

Overall on the day, Drew Allar was a magnificent 17-of-19 for 247 yards and three touchdowns. He posted an 88.6 QBR and brought his average completion back up to 13 yards, an extremely healthy mark.

Allar’s 89.5 percent completion percentage on the day is the highest for a Penn State quarterback in the last 25 seasons, per ESPN College Football. Allar was excellent all night carving up the Boilermakers’ secondary and did everything Penn State needed him to do to continue to get better this season. After the game, Penn State head coach James Franklin called Allar, “extremely hungry and driven.” Franklin continued that Allar “wants to win for Penn State…for guys in the locker room, for fans and the lettermen.”

Beau Pribula Report Card vs. Boilermakers

Thanks to the blowout, Penn State got to use backup quarterback Beau Pribula plenty Saturday, with Pribula playing the final quarter and a half in relief of Drew Allar.

Pribula made the most of his playing time, once again showing off improved accuracy throwing the football and his unique athleticism at the quarterback position. Pribula finished the day five for eight passing for 58 yards and a touchdown and added 56 yards and a touchdown on the ground. Pribula posted a QBR of 93.8 in the win.

Although Pribula had three incompletions on the day, the game could have gone much differently for Pribula in the second half. Twice Pribula found receivers down the field for Penn State in the second half only for receivers to drop accurate passes.

Pribula, however, did show off his legs after one of the dropped passes, rushing for a 49-yard touchdown at the end of the third quarter. Pribula played very well for the situation for Penn State and continued to show why he is a weapon even as a backup quarterback for the Nittany Lions.
