Jaquan Brisker One of NFL’s 2022 ‘unsung heroes’

Jaquan Brisker was only a rookie, but he made the impact of a seasoned veteran on the Chicago Bears, after  being chosen in the second-round of the 2022 NFL Draft out of Penn State Football.

Brisker, finished the 2022 campaign with a team-high 4.0 sacks, anchoring a revamped secondary in the Windy City, similar to his dominance in the Nittany Lions‘ secondary during his time in Happy Valley.

Earlier this month, NFL.com listed Brisker as the Bears’ Unsung Hero of 2022:

I love what the Bears have in their secondary. Brisker and nickelback Kyler Gordon (Gordon was selected 39th overall and Brisker was drafted 48th, both in the second round) are talented defensive backs who beefed up Chicago’s back end and are primed to make plays for years to come. Brisker only finished with one interception to Gordon’s three, but anyone who watched the Bears on a weekly basis is well aware of the safety’s exciting potential. The team’s own site even named him Chicago’s Rookie of the Year. I agree with that designation, and I can’t wait to see how he develops.

Beyond leading the Bears in sacks, Brisker added 104 total tackles with one interception, one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery.

Pro Football Focus gives Brisker a 67 overall grade, listing him as the outlet’s No. 42 ranked safety in the league, while crediting him with 28 run-stops. Brisker’s versatility in coverage as well as as a box-safety against the run and rushing the passer give him plenty of upside in the NFL.

With Brisker longside Kyler Gordon, the Bears appear to have a pair of star defensive backs to build around in the secondary for years to come.
