Things got a little extra competitive between Joey Porter Jr. and star wide receiver George Pickens at Pittsburgh Steelers training camp.
During an August 1 practice, Pickens climbed the ladder against Porter Jr. to make a circus one-handed catch along the sideline, before mockingly handing the football to the former Nittany Lions standout.
Porter Jr. didn’t take kindly to Pickens’ taunt, and threw the ball back at the star receiver’s face.

The Steelers have high expectations for Porter Jr., who was chosen with the first pick of the second-round of the 2023 NFL Draft. It’s clear that Porter Jr. is not going to back down from intense competition, even on the practice field.
Pickens has developed a reputation as one of the best in the sport at pulling down contested catches, while Porter Jr.’s prowess in the Penn State secondary was playing physical bump coverage.
During his final season in Happy Valley, Porter Jr. produced 27 total tackles, while breaking up 11 passes.
Given that Porter Jr. is already slotted as one of the Steelers’ starting cornerbacks, this is going to be an entertaining matchup to watch unfold throughout the summer.
