No. 1 Penn State Wrestling vs. No. 8 Ohio State: Nittany Lions power through 27-13 over Buckeyes | FULL Results

Penn State Wrestling took care of business on the mat Friday night as they downed No. 8 Ohio State 27-13.

It was no Tyler Kasak and no Greg Kerkvliet, but that wasn’t a problem for the Nittany Lions.

Penn State Wrestling won seven of the 10 matches on the evening and they tacked on bonus points in three of the matches. The Buckeyes battled hard all night, however their lineup simply does not match up with the juggernaut that is Penn State.

Now onto the action!

The dual started out at 125 where Luke Lilledahl looked in full control. He lead 6-2 following the opening period. However after choosing down to start the second, he got caught in a really bad spot.

Lilledahl tried to wriggle free but the damage was already done. Ohio State led 6-0 following a fall in the first match.

Then Braeden Davis saw action for the first time in a couple of weeks. And after shaking off some rust early in the match, he ultimately powered through with the 8-5 decision.

Beau Bartlett had an excellent start to his match. He snagged a takedown in the first period and rode the 2024 NCAA Champion for the remainder of the period. Both guys swapped escapes in the second and third period but that was the extent of all of the scoring.

After losing his last two matches to Jesse Mendez, Beau Bartlett prevailed 4-2.

Then at 149, Shayne Van Ness put together a workman like effort en route to a 4-2 decision as well. After the first four matches of the evening, Penn State Wrestling clawed its way back to a 9-6 lead.

Joe Sealey got the nod in place of Tyler Kasak at 157. And let’s just say his first career dual meet appearance was certainly a learning experience.

Sealey dropped the 10-1 major decision and going into the break Ohio State led 10-9.

165-285

The hammers of the Penn State Wrestling squad were on full display Friday evening.

Mitchell Mesenbrink was dominant in a 19-4 technical fall, Levi Haines pulled out the late comeback with a 6-4 decision, and Carter Starocci was overwhelming in his 22-7 technical fall.

With only two matches remaining in the dual the Nittany Lions were out to a 22-10 lead.

Then at 197, Josh Barr started out his match a bit slow. Barr led 4-0 going into the third period, but as the Nittany Lion faithful have seen before, this is where he kicked it into another gear.

Barr picked up his energy significantly and he ended up rolling to the 20-5 technical fall.

And in the final match of the evening Cole Mirasola got the nod in place of Greg Kerkvliet as he was dealing with a bout of the flu.

In his first dual meet action Mirasola put together a fine effort. However it wasn’t enough to overcome an All-American from last season.

Cole dropped the 10-3 decision, however Penn State Wrestling still took down Ohio State to the tune of 27-13.
