Penn State Basketball Loses in Heartbreaking Fashion to Georgia Tech

NEW YORK — Penn State Basketball dropped a heartbreaker at Madison Square Garden this afternoon losing to Georgia Tech 82-81 in overtime.

The Nittany Lions stormed back from down 10 points with just under nine minutes to go, on the back of a tenacious press that led to a number of key Georgia Tech turnovers.

They forced overtime, but guard Ace Baldwin had a chance to win it in regulation and came up short on a rather uninspiring final possession.

It was a back and forth affair in overtime but Penn State was done in by a, let’s say, a ticky tack loose ball foul call on Baldwin that gave the Yellow Jackets free throws. They converted both from the line to take an 82-81 lead.

A near half court attempt by Baldwin wouldn’t go, as the game closed out 82-81.

What Went Wrong for Penn State Basketball

For the second straight game Penn State put forth a gutsy effort coming back from down double digits, but the flaws in this team were on full display yet again.

Georgia Tech dominated the Nittany Lions on the glass, out rebounding the Lions 48-27 which led to 20 second chance points for GT.

The bright spot in this one for Penn State Basketball, however, was junior guard D’Marco Dunn who sparked the offense with 17 points off the bench. Guard Kanye Clary led all scorers with 23 while Ace Baldwin was quiet from the field in the second half, but did finish with 18.

Forward Puff Johnson started off slow, especially from long range going 0-3 on three point shots. He was a catalyst though however and did finish with 15 points.

The Lions now fall to 5-6 on the season with two non conference games against Le Moyne and Rider on deck.
