Prized Penn State Basketball Recruit Requests Release After Micah Shrewsberry Departure

As if the last 36 hours couldn’t have gotten any worse, the hits just keep on coming for Penn State Basketball.

Forward Carey Booth has requested his release from the letter of intent he signed a few months ago, following former Nittany Lions head coach Micah Shrewsberry’s departure for Notre Dame.

Booth is the 2nd highest recruit in school history and ranked #73 nationally and the 16th best Power Forward of his class. Booth is also the son of Penn State legend and current NBA GM Calvin Booth.

Many thought that Booth would be the player who would stay committed for the 2023 class being he is a legacy commit. That apparently is not the case and whoever is hired as the full time coach it will be difficult to get him back on board if he isn’t heading to Notre Dame with Shrewsberry already.

Penn State Basketball will be down to 5 scholarship players for the 2023-24 season pending none of this past year’s freshman class intend on entering the portal and following Shrewsberry.

Dallion Johnson and Caleb Dorsey have already entered the portal prior to the Shrewsberry announcement and Seth Lundy had declared for the NBA Draft.

Things look to be heading in a dark direction for Penn State Basketball and if they hire a new coach from another school, he may have to bring his entire roster with him.
