Penn State Football Injury Roundup as Nittany Lions Lose 3 Key Players vs. Wisconsin, Including Drew Allar

Penn State Football survived the upset alert in Madison Saturday, outlasting the Wisconsin Badgers 28-13.

After the game, Penn State head coach James Franklin called it “one of the prettiest and ugliest wins we’ve had” and “just a gutsy win.”

However, despite moving to 7-0 on the season and likely keeping their No. 3 ranking for another week, three key injuries loom ahead of Penn State’s biggest test of the season next week against the Ohio State Buckeyes.

Here is a breakdown of all three injuries to Penn State starters coming out of Penn State’s win over Wisconsin.

Quarterback Drew Allar

Quarterback Drew Allar’s injury looms the largest for the rest of Penn State’s season.

Allar seemingly injured his left knee on Penn State’s final drive of the first half after being spun around in a sack.

Allar limped off the field and headed into the locker room early. After half, Allar tried warming up before slamming his helmet on the bench and not picking it back up Saturday. Allar did not make an appearance in the second half and finished the game 14/18 for 148 yards and a touchdown. Allar also ran four times for eight yards, including a few sacks.

After the game, Franklin noted that he asked Allar to be “very, very honest” with him regarding his mobility on the injured knee, and Allar didn’t feel like he could be mobile enough to run the offense in the second half.

Beau Pribula played well in relief of Allar, going 11-of-13 for 98 yards and a touchdown and adding 28 yards on the ground.

The health of Penn State’s starting quarterback and the extent of Allar’s left knee injury will be key to determining how the rest of Penn State’s season goes in 2024.

Defensive End Dani Dennis-Sutton

Dani Dennis-Sutton also limped off the field with a lower-body injury in the first half. Dennis-Sutton went down in the second quarter, grabbing his groin area. After halftime, Dennis-Sutton returned for one play before heading to the sideline and not returning to action for Penn State.

One of Penn State’s two starting defensive ends, Dennis-Sutton recorded two tackles in the game and has accumulated two sacks and four tackles for a loss on the season.

Right Tackle Anthony Donkoh

Right tackle Anthony Donkoh was injured earlier this season against UCLA. Since that game, Donkoh has been playing through a shoulder injury. During the game Saturday against Wisconsin, Donkoh left the game with an undisclosed injury and did not return.

Backup right tackle, and former Wisconsin Badger, Nolan Rucci played the remainder of the game in place of Donkoh. It is not known at this time whether Donkoh’s injury is new or a reinjury of his shoulder.

All eyes will be on these three key injuries this week as the Nittany Lions return home to face the Ohio State Buckeyes next Saturday.

James Franklin will speak at his weekly press conference Monday and again after practice Wednesday, where we will await injury news on these three players.
