Penn State Football put on its most complete performance of the season in a 49-10 win over the Purdue Boilermakers Saturday afternoon.
In the game, Penn State was able to get six different Nittany Lions into the endzone and play 68 different players in the game.
With Penn State Football moving to 9-1 on the season with two games remaining in the 2024 regular season, the Nittany Lions continue on the path to punch the program’s first ticket to the College Football Playoff in program history.
Here are NittanyCentral’s players of the game and MVP for Penn State in the dominant win over the Boilermakers.
Offensive Player of the Game: Drew Allar
Drew Allar was a magnificent 17-for-19 for 247 yards and three touchdowns.
Allar posted an 88.6 QBR and brought his average completion back up to 13 yards, an extremely healthy mark. Allar’s 89.5 percent completion percentage on the day is the highest for a Penn State quarterback in the last 25 seasons, per ESPN College Football. Allar was excellent all night carving up the Boilermakers’ secondary and did everything Penn State needed him to do to continue to get better this season.
After the game, Penn State head coach James Franklin called Allar, “extremely hungry and driven.” Franklin continued that Allar “wants to win for Penn State…for guys in the locker room, for fans and the lettermen.”
Defensive Player of the Game: Abdul Carter
Despite not recording a sack against the Boilermakers (due to multiple uncalled holding penalties), Abdul Carter was a menace for the Nittany Lions Saturday.
Carter led the Nittany Lions with five tackles and recorded two tackles for a loss. Carter was seemingly held on every play for the Nittany Lions but still made his presence felt in the backfield rushing Hudson Card and creating havoc all night. Carter leads the Big Ten with 17.5 tackles for a loss this season and is widely expected to hear his name early on night one in April.
MVP: Tyler Warren
Is there anything Tyler Warren can’t do?
Warren again played in multiple positions across the offense for Penn State, racking up 190 total yards and two touchdowns in Penn State’s win over Purdue. Warren caught eight passes for 127 yards and a touchdown and rushed three times for 63 yards and a touchdown. Tyler Warren continues to make his case for not only the Mackey Award for the best tight end in college football (which he should have wrapped up by now), but also the Heisman and the Paul Hornung Award for the best player in college football and the most versatile player in college football, respectively.
After the game, Penn State head coach James Franklin also made his case for Tyler Warren, stating “I think Tyler Warren should be a part of all the conversations that deal with the best football player in college football. … That’s all those types of awards, including the Heisman.”
The Nittany Lions will continue to push for the college football playoff next week on the road again against the Minnesota Golden Gophers.
All three of Penn State’s biggest stars have been stepping up on a weekly basis to help Penn State stay in the top five and push towards the first college football playoff birth in program history. Penn State will need all three to continue to step up week in and week out to accomplish Penn State’s goals for the remainder of the season.
