Penn State Football will have a brand new signal caller at Quarterback for the 2026 season. Former Iowa State Quarterback Rocco Becht has announced his commitment to Penn State.
Shortly after the season ended for the Cyclones, Becht announced his intentions to enter the transfer portal. Penn State just made too much sense for Becht with him following head coach Matt Campbell, Offensive Coordinator Taylor Mouser, and Quarterbacks Coach Jake Waters to Happy Valley. However, he did look into a few other places, namely West Virginia.

The Rocco Becht File
Becht will bring one year of eligibility to State College. He is a plug and play Quarterback for one season. This works out well because of Becht’s familiarity with the offensive staff.
As a three year starter, Becht brings plenty of experience. The Florida native has had a largely successful career at the helm in Ames. Becht has posted 9,274 passing yards, 64 passing touchdowns, and only 27 interceptions. Additionally, Becht has chipped in as a dual threat. He’s gained 499 rushing yards and 19 rushing touchdowns. Becht’s most recent season as a redshirt junior saw a dropoff in production. Likely due to a non throwing shoulder torn labrum, which he got repaired this offseason.
The best season that Becht has played came in 2024. He threw for 3,505 yards and 25 touchdowns. Plus, he added 318 yards on the ground, making him one of the premiere Quarterbacks of the Big 12 in 2024.
Matt Campbell has his answer at Quarterback for 2026. The writing is almost certainly on the wall for Ethan Grunkemeyer, who has a lot more elgibility left. Becht will be the Nittany Lion signal caller for Matt Campbell in 2026.
