Projecting Penn State Football’s Overall Ranking in EA Sports College Football 25

EA Sports College Football franchise is finally coming back after a decade hiatus off the market, to the delight of Penn State Football fans and college football fans everywhere.

With licensing and player payments squared away, fans of the franchise are closer than ever to reliving their childhood and playing as their favorite college team once again.

While the official release date is still over a month away, EA Sports released a gameplay trailer last week, exciting fans around the country.

In the gameplay release trailer and the official trailer, Nittany Lions fans have been able to see the whiteout backdrop at night in Beaver Stadium and a “homefield advantage” meter that ranks Penn State second in the country for stadium atmosphere.

However, fans are still waiting on one final announcement, the team and player ratings. Last week, I posted a prediction of the top five Nittany Lions in the new game this summer. Here is a projection of Penn State’s overall ratings.

Penn State Football: Predicting Penn State’s team ranking in EA Sports College Football 25

Offense: 86 Overall

Penn State’s offense struggled in 2023 to be consistent week to week, enough so to fire offensive coordinator Mike Yurcich and bring in Andy Kotelnicki.

With a junior tandem of elite running backs and a second-year starting signal caller, Penn State Football’s offense should be improved in 2024.

Penn State’s team will likely reflect higher ratings at quarterback, running back, and tight end on the new game, while seeing lower ratings among first-year starters on the offensive line and in the wide receiver corps that struggled in 2023. I project that the offense will be ranked in the bottom of the top 25 offenses in the game at an 86 overall.

Defense: 96 Overall

Penn State had statistically one of the top two defenses in the country in 2023.

Although the Nittany Lions lost a few key pieces to the NFL draft, the Penn State staff dipped into the transfer portal to reload talent at cornerback and had plenty of talent along the defensive line to replace two departing starters.

As I projected last week, Penn State’s top three players in the new game should be defensive starters, aiding the high rating for the Penn State defense.

Penn State should once again have one of the top defenses in college football in 2024 and EA Sports College Football 25 should reward the Nittany Lions as such. I project that the defense will be among the top five defenses in the game, 96 overall, which would have ranked second in the last iteration of the game.

Overall: 91 Overall

I am projecting Penn State Football to be one of the 10 highest-ranked teams in the new College Football 25 game.

This rating would have ranked 10th overall in NCAA14, the last installation of the game before the decade hiatus. While these rankings are fluid and may be updated throughout the season, Penn State should be positioned among the elite of the elite when the new game releases next month.
