Penn State Football recruiting: Names to watch with big week for Nittany Lions underway

Penn State Football recruiting is off to a great start with their 2023 class that currently ranks sixth in the nation according to 247Sports.

Last week was tumultuous, losing four star quarterback Marcus Stokes to Florida, as well as running back Treyaun Webb to the Gators, a commit many had crystal balled to the Nittany Lions.

However, they salvaged it by flipping Alabama recruit and cornerback Elliot Washington who is a top 100 player, and was a massive get for Penn State Football head coach James Franklin and his staff.

The fun continues this week as Penn State Football fans should have their eyes on three four star players who are all pegged to join the Blue and White.

Who are the top names to watch for Penn State Football recruiting this week?

Monday afternoon, Franklin continued to dominate the state, by adding four star running back London Montgomery out of Scranton Prep.

The five-foot-10, 180 pound back also has Boston College and Virginia Tech in his top three, but seven 247Sports experts have predicted he will be a Nittany Lion.

The real fireworks should begin later in the week when Tony Rojas, a highly rated four star linebacker out Fairfax, Virginia will make his decision.

Rojas is down to Penn State Football, Clemson and Georgia for his top three which should come as no surprise as he currently sits as the 107th best player in the class by the composite rankings. He, like Montgomery, has unanimously been predicted to be committing to the blue and white, but with suitors like Clemson and Georgia lurking, this could come down to the wire.

Last, but certainly not least is Ta’Mere Robinson.

Another Pennsylvania kid hailing from Pittsburgh will make his decision on Friday, July 15th and also has nothing but crystal ball’s in for him to be a Penn Stater.

The four-star edge rusher has no shortage of suitors but is down to Penn State, Miami and Virginia Tech.

New Miami head coach Mario Cristobal has been on a recruiting war path of late, so this is another one that Franklin may be sweating out, despite experts predicitons.

Why Penn State Football’s big recruiting week is big deal

Adding three four star, and two top 300 players to the class of ‘23 this week would go a long way in the Lions maintaining that sixth spot nationally.

This is a huge week for the staff and anything short of going three for three here would be a huge disappointment.
