Point Spread:

Penn State Football (-12) vs. Maryland

Penn State Football enters Saturday’s matchup as a 12-point favorite. Penn State is 6-3 ATS, while Maryland is 4-5 this season.

Penn State Football Moneyline: -500

Placing a $500 bet on Penn State Football to knock off Maryland, straight up on the moneyline, would pay $100. Penn State leads the all-time series 41-3-1. Penn State won last year’s matchup in College Park 31-14.

The Nittany Lions have dominated this series but Maryland has won twice since James Franklin took over in 2014 winning both games at Beaver Stadium 20-19 (2014) and 35-19 (2020).

Penn State Football vs. Maryland over/under: 59

The total has gone over in 7 out of 9 games this season for Penn State Football. The total has gone under in 5 of 9 games for Maryland.

Picks for the Week:

This week feels like the most difficult test left for the Nittany Lions this regular season.

Maryland enters the game 6-3, and it was likely they would have been ranked entering this matchup had they beaten Wisconsin last week.

Taulia Tagovailoa is one of the best quarterbacks that Penn State Football will face all season. This matchup will feature a strength versus strength with the Maryland wide receivers and the Penn State secondary.

The weather will be another factor this weekend as a rainy or windy Saturday will severely hinder both offenses.

Penn State Football should cover the spread in this game but it will be closer than some of the Maryland games in the James Franklin era. Last year’s game was close until a late pick 6 put the game away and the Nittany Lions won 31-14.

Expect a similar outcome this year with a tougher Maryland team, but a more friendly environment for the Nittany Lions. The under would be a lean in this game, but wouldn’t be recommended due to the unpredictability of the weather.

Prediction: Penn State 35           Maryland 21

Big Ten Pick of the Week:

Nebraska (+31) vs Michigan

I know what you are thinking, Michigan is a juggernaut and Nebraska is in the toilet this season. While that may be true a 31-point spread feels like too much.

Michigan has been known to sleepwalk through these types of matchups and last week was an example of that against Rutgers where they trailed at the half. If Nebraska can jump on the Wolverines early, they have a good chance to cover this spread. Nebraska has a good enough offense to keep this game within 4 touchdowns and a backdoor cover will always be in the cards as Michigan looks ahead toward their big matchups with Illinois and Ohio State in the upcoming weeks.
