Penn State Hockey successfully swept this past weekend against Alaska Fairbanks, earning the No. 1 spot in the new Bucci Mane #cawlidgehockey Top 16 twitter rankings.

The Nittany Lions‘ overall record was improved to 13-3, and 9-2 at home, beating Alaska by scores of (3-2) and (2-1).

It’s no surprise Penn State Hockey leads his rankings, as Buccigross had the Lions ranked #3 last week, only behind Minnesota and Denver last week.

Pushing Past Minnesota & Denver

The Pioneers split a heavily favored series against Omaha with a (0-3 L) and (6-3 W). Then, we have the Minnesota Golden Gophers who took a visit to Mullet Arena to play Arizona State University.

Mullet Arena also stands as the temporary home of the Arizona Coyotes, while plans are being implemented for a $2.1 billion dollar arena right near Tempe.

The Golden Gophers came into their matchup ranked #2 in the USCHO, splitting the series with a (3-2 W) and (5-6 OTL). Two different series splits between the heavy favorites gave Buccigross plenty of justification to reward the Lions with a top-dog ranking.

Buccigross #cawlidgehockey Top 16 Predictions Looking Forward

The Nittany Lions will play the Ohio State Buckeyes in Pegula Ice Arena for a Friday/Saturday series.

This holiday season, Penn State Hockey will have Ohio State, Notre Dame, and RIT, each of them representing a tough opponent.

In that same sense, conference wins will keep Penn State Hockey in Buccigross’s top spot longer.

Even more so, a sweep against the Buckeyes, a win against Notre Dame, and another sweep against RIT could keep them #1 for the entire month of December.Â
