Penn State Wrestling’s Beau Bartlett made the semifinals in last year’s NCAA Wrestling Championships.
But how he did it this year was WAY different than last year in his quarterfinals match against Minnesota’s Vance Vombaur.
With the first period ending in a scoreless tie, Bartlett took the lead with an escape midway through the second period. Then early in the third period, Vombaur answered back with an early escape and the match was tied 1-1.
Bartlett was able to hit home on a shot and he secured the first takedown of the match with only a minute remaining. Vombaur once again escaped and the match was 4-2 in favor of Beau.
That’s when the following unfolded.

Beau Bartlett got in deep on his counterpart, he cinched in the cradle, and he officially punched his ticket to the semifinals in amazing fashion!
And with the win, Beau is also guaranteed an All-American finish. This would be his second straight All-American honor as he took home third place in the 2023 NCAA Championships.
There is still plenty of wrestling to go, but this was an incredible win. And you better believe Bartlett has his eyes fixed on making the finals and avenging his Big Ten Championship loss to Jesse Mendez.
