No. 1 Penn State Wrestling vs. Michigan: Nittany Lions crush Wolverines 39-0 | FULL RESULTS
Penn State Wrestling hosted their second straight BJC dual meet, and the results were pretty much the same as the Nittany Lions spanked Michigan 39-0.
It was a mere seven days ago that the Nittany Lions took Iowa behind the woodshed. And now it was the Wolverine’s turn to get demoralized by the dominant machine that is Penn State Wrestling.
Hey, the Nittany Lions are an equal opportunity squad when it comes to handing out butt kickings.
So with that, let’s get to the action!

125-157
The dual meet started out at 125 where Luke Lilledahl got to work early. Following his first period takedown, Lilledahl landed another midway through the second period.
Then after his third takedown early in the final period, Lilledahl struck again. This time he anticipated exactly what his opponent was going to do. Luke immediately slapped on the cradle and the match was over.
Then at 133 it was the second straight week where Braeden Davis was on the sidelines. And this time Kyison Garcia got the call.
The redshirt freshman wrestled a tough match and he was able to ride a second period takedown into his first dual meet victory of his career. Garcia’s 4-1 decision then gave Penn State Wrestling a 9-0 lead after the first two matches.
Next up at 141, Beau Bartlett kept the winning going for the Nittany Lions. Albeit, the match wasn’t the most exciting though.
Beau flipped a third period reversal and a hard ride into a razor-close 3-2 decision win. But hey, a win’s a win, right?
And speaking of that, Shayne Van Ness notched another win on his resume. However it wasn’t the high flying, high scoring affair most Penn State fans are used to seeing.
The final score was “only” 7-1. But I assure you this match was completely one-sided. One guy was actively trying to score. And the other guy was giving max effort on defense and defense only.
And in the final match before intermission, Tyler Kasak picked up his 14th straight win of the season. His 7-2 decision was very similar to SVN’s win in the previous match.
So far in the dual one thing is for certain. Michigan definitely brought their “A game” in terms of defense. But I think they left their offense in Ann Arbor.
Halfway through the dual Penn State Wrestling lead 18-0.
165-285
Coming out of the break it was much of the same. It was the third consecutive match in which a high scoring wrestler went up against someone who didn’t want to do anything other than defend.
Mitchell Mesenbrink picked up the 18-4 major decision. But more interestingly, it was his first non-technical fall win of the year.
Then at 174, Levi Haines electrified the crowd when he worked an early first period takedown into a fall two minutes and 37 seconds into the match.
Haines pin extended Penn State Wrestling’s lead to 28-0 with only three matches to go.
Carter Starocci kept the Nittany Lion faithful on the edge of their seats in the next match. He hit home on a handful of takedowns in each of the three period to cruise to the 19-4 technical fall.
And next up at 197, Josh Barr’s match was again circled as “The most anticipated match of the night”. Barr came up just short last week against Stephen Buchanan (4-1 decision loss).
But that wasn’t the case tonight. With the score tied 1-1 after regular time and after sudden victory, Barr struck with a reversal with less than four seconds to go in TB2.
The 3-2 decision win was Barr’s 13th win of the season and it gave Cardenas his first loss.
And in the final match of the dual, Greg Kerkvliet grinded his opponent into dust. Kerk piled up over two minutes of riding time to cap the 6-0 decision win and seal the shutout for Penn State Wrestling.
