Head coach James Franklin brings arguably his deepest and most talented roster of his tenure in Happy Valley to Columbus, as the Nittany Lions look to remain unbeaten and take a big step towards making the College Football Playoff by knocking off the Buckeyes.

Allar enters Saturday’s contest with 12 passing touchdowns, having yet to throw an interception, and is one of Penn State’s most significant reasons to be optimistic about knocking off Ohio State for the first time since 2016.

Franklin has just one victory over Ohio State in his career, but isn’t allowing past to be prologue within the program this week.

“You’re going to ask these questions, I get it,” Franklin told reporters this week. “We’re trying to find a way to get a win this week. We approach it the same every single week. Everyone outside is talking.”

While much of Penn State’s aspirations can be attributed to Allar leading one of the nation’s most efficient offenses, likewise, Manny Diaz’s defense enters as the No. 1 defense in the nation.

While the outside world will view this as a measuring stick for the program, and whether Penn State can push for a national championship this season, Franklin is trying to keep things in perspective for his players.

“I think what you have to be careful of is, you have to understand and figure out what the identity of your team is, and embrace that identity no matter what the outside world is saying,” Franklin said. “You have to be comfortable in your own skin and own who you are and be comfortable in how you play.”
