Penn State Basketball tips off the 2023 regular season, and the head coach Mike Rhoades era, as the Nittany Lions host Delaware State inside the Bryce Jordan Center on Monday, Nov. 6.

This will be a new-look Penn State roster from the team that made a run to the NCAA Tournament last spring.

Things to Watch

While few, if any of us, expect Delaware State to pull off the upset tonight, will PSU in their first game as a unit (not counting the charity exhibition against Robert Morris) be able to put the Hornets away?

Last year against this same opponent, an arguably more talented PSU squad struggled to do just that and the game crawled to a 60-46 final.

What are the rotations for this new era of PSU hoops?

With the potential absence of contributors Puff Johnson (UNC transfer)  and Leo O’Boyle (Lafayette transfer), how will the minutes be distributed throughout the PSU bench?

Who will play more off-ball?

I’ll be paying close attention to who runs the point more often when Kanye Clary and Ace Baldwin are both on the floor.

Where will the offense come from, particularly on the perimeter?

Penn State struggled to get buckets from deep against Robert Morris. Offense takes a while to catch up to defense in these early stages but it would go a long way to build confidence in the prospects of this team if we saw some adept outside shooting.

Is the Mike Rhoades defense as intense as advertised?

I expect Penn State to win the turnover battle, push the ace on offense, and provide no room for the Delaware State offense to operate.
