Former Penn State Football tight end Mike Gesicki has made a strong first impression on new Miami Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel.

Gesicki, who is entering his fifth NFL season, and coming off career-highs in catches and receiving yards, could be on the cusp of a monster 2022 campaign, after the Dolphins significantly bolstered the talent at wide receiver by trading for Tyreek Hill this offseason.

For his part, McDaniel has already taken notice of Gesicki.

According to the Sun Sentinel, McDaniel has been impressed by Gesicki’s “range” in the passing game, and improvement as a blocker.

Gesicki caught 73 passes for 780 yards, with a pair of touchdowns last season.

According to Pro Football Focus, Dolphins quarterbacks had an 88.6 passer rating on Gesicki’s 106 targets.

This is a pivotal upcoming season for Gesicki, who will play the 2022 campaign on the franchise tag, after the Dolphins were unable to come to terms on a long-term contract with the former Nittany Lions star this offseason.

If Gesicki is going to breakthrough and become one of the NFL’s premier tight ends, and more complete players at the position, staying on the field in obvious running situations and improving as a blocker will be tantamount.

At least from first impressions this summer, it sounds as though Gesicki is well on his way to accomplishing exactly that.
