Penn State Football is flying under the radar, but that doesn’t mean the Nittany Lions can’t surprise in 2022.
Before the start of the season, analysts give their take on how each team is going to look for the upcoming season, especially based on what changes they made in the offseason.
On Saturday, during the season premiere of ESPN College Gameday, Analyst Kirk Herbstreit said he believes Penn State Football can be a contender to challenge Ohio State for the Big Ten Conference.
“I think Penn State,” Herbstreit said, when asked to name a surprise team for the upcoming season. “I think Penn State has a team, and some key spots with the leadership that they’re bringing back.”

The Last time Penn State Football defeated Ohio State was in 2016, and that season the Lions would go on to win the Big Ten Conference.
Herbstreit says that the Nittany Lions’ quarterback situation is stronger than people give it credit for, which could be a catalyst for success this fall.
“I think people are underestimating Sean Clifford a little bit,” Herbstreit explained. “I think Sean Clifford, when he’s healthy, can make plays. I think Penn State has a team that has a shot to be a sleeper.”
Penn State Football will do battle with Ohio State on October 29 inside Beaver Stadium.
Is this the year that the Nittany Lions break their five game-losing streak to the Buckeyes?
