Penn State Football is in the middle of a kicking competition in fall camp this month, which has kept James Franklin pretty busy.
After senior transfer Alex Felkins ran out of eligibility at the end of the 2023 season, Penn State is holding an open competition with the three kickers on the roster to find its starting kicker for 2024.
Walk-on redshirt freshman Ryan Barker, redshirt junior Sander Sahaydak, and Tulsa transfer junior Chase Meyer are locked into a camp battle this fall, with Franklin stating Tuesday that Penn State believes they “can win with” any of the three of them.
With the battle close between the three kickers, Penn State is using different types of situations in practice to dial up the pressure and simulate game situations as best as possible.

On Wednesday, Penn State posted a video of the latest high-pressure situation concocted by the team, a kick with pushups on the line for James Franklin.
Before the kick, Franklin can be seen dialing up the pressure, yelling at Ryan Barker as he is getting set. After Ryan Barker nailed the field goal, James Franklin is seen paying up with his pushups in front of the team with redshirt freshman Andrew Rappleyea counting them out.
