Penn State Football: 3 Rising Stars Poised for Breakout Season in 2023

If Penn State Football is to make the College Football Playoff, the Nittany Lions will need several key players to step up.

We all know Penn State has a strong defense and rushing attack, but they will need certain players to break out to accomplish their goals.

3 Penn State Football Potential Breakout Stars for 2023 Season

3) KeAndre Lambert-Smith, Wide Receiver

KeAndre Lambert-Smith had 24 catches for 389 yards and four touchdowns last year.

With Penn State’s top receiving targets moved on, Lambert-Smith will need to step up and lead the
Nittany Lions receivers.

With Penn State Football having a good rushing attack, Lambert-Smith should see a lot of one-on-one coverage, and he has to win those battles for PSU to be CFP contenders.

2) Zakee Wheatley, Safety

With Ji’Ayir Brown gone, the Penn State secondary will have a void, but it will be up to Zakee Wheatley to help fill it.

Last Season, Wheatley had two interceptions for the Nittany Lions; he also had 27 tackles, three passes defended, and a forced fumble.

Meanwhile, Jaylen Reed could also see time at safety along with Wheatley, both could share time, but they will need to make plays.

1) Drew Allar, Quarterback

Penn State’s season could come down to the play of new starting quarterback Drew Allar.

As Freshman, Allar threw for 344 yards and four touchdowns in limited action for the Nittany Lions.

Allar will be playing behind one of the best offensive lines in the country and one of the best rushing attacks.

Running backs Nick Singleton and Kaytron Allen will help ease things for Allar.

The Nittany Lions have a retooled receiving core and must build chemistry with Allar during practice.

Allar must do a good job taking care of the ball and not turn it over.

With Penn State leaning on the run, opposing teams will load the box, and Allar will have a lot of opportunities in the play-action passing game and will have a chance to make plays down the field.
