Could Sean Clifford Make Packers’ Week 1 Roster?

Penn State Football, Sean Clifford

After being a surprise fifth-round draft pick by the Green Bay Packers, is it possible Sean Clifford could be in uniform on Week 1?

It’s not as crazy as you think. Jordan Love is the starter, having waited his turn behind future Hall-of-Famer Aaron Rodgers. But, behind the highly touted but unproven starter, the Packers roster is wide open. Sean Clifford is joined by the former USFHL MVP Alex McGough. McGough was a 7th round pick of Seattle in 2018 and has yet to play a down in the NFL. Now, it’s not impossible the Packers are waiting for training camp to sign a veteran to back-up Love.  But, the idea of having just three young quarterbacks on the roster isn’t ideal for any NFL team.

An unsigned veteran like Carson Wentz (ugh) could find his way onto this roster. But, ESPN’s NFL Nation is currently listing the NO. 2 quarterback spot as the most intriguing position battle on the Packers roster. Is it possible Sean Clifford, who seemed to never be able to win over fans like Trace McSorley did before him, could surprise us all and be in uniform Week 1? Either way, the Packers roster is a great place for Clifford to earn a spot on the team!

Smith's most proud moment covering the team was seeing the national No. 9 ranking during Pat Chambers' last year. His most embarrassing moment was spending almost a thousand dollars to travel 2,000 miles in 46 hours to watch the Nittany Lions lose to Temple in the 2011 NCAA Tournament (screw you Juan Fernandez).
